Brooklyn Botanic Gardens

Last weekend I had friends visiting, and we decided to walk over to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens so we could enjoy the beautiful weather. I've been to the gardens several times (it is, after all, within walking distance from my apartment!) so when we entered the conservatory I let my friends wander at will and walked around until I found something to sketch. I decided on a quick sketch of a bird of paradise flower. The next day I got an email from someone who had inquired about my work (I gave out several business cards while I was sketching) who ended up buying the painting! Things that are Hard to Resist

Last weekend I decided it was a good week to buy myself flowers, so while passing by the Union Square Green Market I stopped and bought myself a bouquet of dried flowers. Which also meant that I had flowers to sketch! I put them on the window to get some good light on them and then watercolored!

A Blog Within a Blog

Sometimes the internet is a strange and mysterious thing. A few weeks ago, a gal I went to college with announced on facebook that she was starting a travel blog, to support some freelance travel writing she was already doing. She also mentioned that she was looking for contributors to interview, specifically on the topic of traveling solo. Of course, my recent California trip came to mind so I was quick to email her! Saturday in Lower Manhattan

I decided to skip out on the NYC Urban Sketchers event today as it was in the Bronx and required an hour and a half commute each way, and instead decided to go sketching in lower Manhattan. I've mostly been working on commissions, so I needed a break! I started with two of my favorite eateries, conveniently located on the same street! First up is Freeman's, one of my favorite brunch places (though dinner is also fantastic). If you go, get a side of bacon and the artichoke dip! Then, I walked down the block to Morgenstern's. They have wonderful, varied flavors, and great atmosphere! It's a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it. After this sketch I went in and had a waffle cone with butter pe
